What I Learned from Leaders – PART 4
“Being a leader means embracing both strengths and weaknesses, being aware of them, leading by example, inspiring others to explore new worlds, pushing boundaries, and showing others how to do the same.”
I am sharing with you the lessons I learned from STEVE JOBS and use them as a compass in my own actions:
Lesson 13: CHOOSE YOUR PLACE
Will you create your own story, or be part of someone else’s? The difference is enormous! His credo was: ‘Better to be a pirate than join the navy.’ He encouraged his people to embrace a rebellious spirit, take initiative, act with speed, finish what they start, and conquer new territories. His message was clear: this is one of the most important questions to answer before charting your course in personal and professional development.
Lesson 14: ASK FOR IT!
“YOUR TIME IS LIMITED, AND DON’T WASTE IT LIVING SOMEONE ELSE’S LIFE!” – this is a valuable lesson he left as a legacy, urging us to seek our true calling and the environment that aligns with who we are. He encouraged us that if we haven’t discovered it yet, we should keep searching and never settle for a life or work that doesn’t resonate with us.”
Lesson 15: CURIOSITY AND PLAYFULNESS – PART OF OUR PUZZLE!
One of Steve Jobs’ key messages to students at Stanford in 2005 was: “STAY HUNGRY, STAY FOOLISH!” – meaning stay true to yourself, embrace being different, be open to exploration, experimentation, and change. It’s about making mistakes and learning from them. His message offers a guiding framework that gives each of us a vast space for growth, pushing boundaries, and fully enjoying the journey.
Lesson 16: BE AWARE OF YOUR ACTIONS
Steve was always willing to fight for his ideas to the very end, but he also knew when to recognize his mistakes and make compromises. He had a clear awareness of both his accomplishments and his failures. ‘I’ve done a lot of things I’m not proud of. But in my closet, there’s no dirty laundry that no one should find.’ This statement should serve as a litmus test for individuals to examine their actions, intentions, and processes, and to honestly assess where they stand and where they want to go next.
All in all, THE ANSWER IS IN OUR HANDS!
Steve Jobs demonstrated through his personal and professional journey that it’s possible to face rejection—whether from your parents, your company, or the things that matter most—and still find a new path. Ultimately, it’s about how we choose to respond to the situations life throws at us.
We can conclude that BEING A LEADER means discovering your purpose, shaping it into a sustainable vision, and moving forward with and for people. It’s about leaving something behind—a legacy that makes the world, even if just a little, a better place to live.
