What If we…?

What If we…?

At the end of each year—or at the beginning of the next—we often find ourselves reflecting, dreaming, and setting goals. And so, we make a list. But if we’re honest, that list usually includes more items like “I have to…,” “I should…,” or “It’s mandatory to…,” and fewer that start with “I want to learn…,” “I will…,” or “I will make progress in…”—isn’t that the case?

Over the years, I’ve walked through these lists, dilemmas, and uncertainties with many of my clients, often noticing the silent frustrations and dissatisfaction hidden behind statements like, “I have to do this,” or “It’s expected of me.” That’s when I decided to shift the perspective and invite them to view themselves, their goals, their plans, and their environment in a new light.

At the beginning of my conversations with clients, I ask:

How do you want to shape the year ahead?

And then we begin… We set the canvas, I provide the brushes and colors, and I tell them that there are no wrong strokes or bad color combinations. I don’t offer advice like, “You know, you should…” or “It is essential to…” because I deeply believe in the people I work with, in their authenticity, uniqueness, and readiness to open themselves up and find all the answers within.

My role is small—I simply ask the right questions, inspire them to remove barriers they have placed on themselves or that others have helped construct, encourage them to discover what they have been “hungry” for in the past period, and most importantly, urge them never, truly never, to lie to themselves.

If you’re wondering what we achieve in the end, the answer is—a smiling face, a fulfilled person, ready to embrace the year ahead at their own pace.

Naturally, I have a question for you as well:

What if, at the top of our list of goals, we included the following?

  • I want to be healthy, fulfilled, and, above all, grateful for everything I have within me and around me.
  • I will assess how well I am living in alignment with my values.
  • I will enjoy my work and give my best.
  • I will reflect on different aspects of my life and career—how satisfied or dissatisfied I am.
  • I will actively work on eliminating the sources of my dissatisfaction.
  • I will seek tools to elevate my excellence to a higher level.
  • I will open new paths for growth and enjoy every moment of it.
  • I will develop new habits that enhance the quality of my life.
  • I will not hesitate to say, “Sorry, I can’t,” or “I don’t know how to do this—could you help me?” I will also be able to say, “From my perspective, this doesn’t seem right. What do you think?”
  • I want to listen, understand, and support the people around me in meaningful ways.
  • I will not be a grumbler—I will not complain, judge, or offer unsolicited advice. I will not stand in the background waiting to say, “You should have listened to me! Look what happened!”
  • I will continue to seek the good in people, spread joy, and maintain a positive attitude — wherever I go.

Do you know what the results of this approach are?

    • We become healthier, happier, and more successful.
    • We become more valuable—both to ourselves and to those around us.
    • We become better leaders—ones who see the person in front of them with all their strengths and weaknesses, understand their vulnerabilities, and strive to bring out the best in them.

And then… magic happens. People, aware of themselves and their potential, move in the right direction, do the right things, enjoy their work, and give their absolute best.

I invite you to reflect on what you truly want to achieve this year.

It’s never too late to redefine your list and move forward… ON THE SUNNY SIDE OF THE STREET!
